Those of you in Tampa have probably seen Bishop Chuck Leigh in the news today. He is a friend of mine and I would like to share my own impressions for those who have never had the privilege. He was arrested last evening for falsifying documents by signing off on peoples community service forms.That seems perfectly within the realm of believability. I could even picture him saying "ah, just gimme a hug" and then signing off. That being said I cannot believe what they are doing to this man's name in the press today. A hug turns into an "intimate hug" which then turns into "gropy" hug and before you know it they are painting this man to be some disgusting pervert disguised as a man of god getting sexual favors for service hours. This is straight up yellow journalism and I seriously think these writers need to issue retractions and apologies. Reviewing Your Year: An Annual Discipline Worth Embracing

Each year as everybody is getting excited about the holidays, I also get excited. Albeit at the same time, my excitement is about something else all together. My own seasonal ritual, an annual review! I have been developing this habit over the course of the last 6 or so years. It has been a fruitful and actually fun exercise for me and I have only become more convinced that everybody should consider such a habit. You won't believe how many incidents you will find happened this year that seem like forever ago. Other things that you were thinking about last January are still on your mind, or in process. Some things fly by, other things seem to drag on. How many balls were dropped? What unexpected events effected my trajectory? Below is just a quick sketch of my process. If all you had was Paul, what would you know about Jesus?

I've been trying to reflect on what it is that bothers me about so much that I hear in the speech of Christians. One friend always talks about Christ, as in "Christ taught this" or "Christ has done that" and yet very rarely, if ever says the name Jesus. Others talk about the 'gospel' this and the 'gospel' that and yet very rarely have anything to say about the kingdom of God as described by the gospel, or good news that Jesus preached. In the end, what I have been coming to realize is that many many people understand Jesus and the gospel by way of Paul rather than understanding Paul by way of Jesus. To be fair, Paul's letters are some of the earliest Christian documents we have and so should and do play a huge role in shaping the life of the church.
